Hi Julie, I reply to your query about wrist fusions. I remembered Marlene having hers done last year. I have had both mine fused the first one was done seven years ago after i had a tendon rupture of my right ring finger. I had to have a tendon repair, removal of the head of the ulnar bone, a bone graft and a titanium plate inserted across the wrist. It took me six months of intensive physio to get the tendon moving again and was painful. It has taken away alot of the pain but has reduced alot of function as there is no bend at all in the wrist, and i have been told not to lift anything heavy again. I am glad i had it done though as i was told if i hadn't, all the tendons on that hand would have collapsed and my hand would have been useless like a closed fist.

The left wrist was fused 18 months later to prevent a further tendon rupture in the left hand, that was a much easier recovery period.

Hope this is helpful Julie and not too frightening.

If you need to know anything else you can email me at bevandmike1@tiscali.co.uk

Apologies to everyone else, i realise this should be under the surgery forum.
